PLEASE RSVP on EventBrite!:https://www.eventbrite.com/e/monster-bubs-the-art-of-bearpad-opening-reception-tickets-723146620007?aff=oddtdtcreator ABOUT THE ART: BEARPAD creates large scale wooden cutouts of intimate, affectionate bodies. Posed playfully and often embracing, these representations present a squishy queer utopia of sex and body positivity as a subversion of the type of figure generally depicted in queer spaces. These pieces imagine an alternative take on the idea of monsters, portraying fantastical and othered creatures as friendly fuckable bubs. Inspired by the tradition of woodcut art in leather bars, these works are fabricated from heavy duty MDO plywood (a material used in sign making). Hand-cut with a jigsaw and colored with spray paint, these objects utilize an historically queer art practice to celebrate an imagined erotic landscape of 'monstrous' traits refracted through BEARPAD's unique cozy aesthetic. ABOUT THE ARTIST: BEARPAD is a coupla fuzzy bubs who make big, colorful art of cuddly affectionate men. As a solo artist, Patrick Stephenson has been making art as BEARPAD for the past 10 years or so. Joining BEARPAD in 2021, Jordan Fickel has helped BEARPAD grow into a bigger presence in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. We recently did installations at OUTsider Fest in Austin, Texas, Lazy Bear in Guerneville, California, and Western Xposure in Palm Springs, California. We currently reside in Santa Cruz, CA, where we are both pursuing graduate degrees in art.
